4 x GTX 1070 – Power efficient Mining rig for Ethereum (50% TDP, 100W, 31 MH/s per GPU)



A short video of my mining rig prototype, up and running since around 1 week and very stable so far.

As pretty much everyone else I could not get a hold of any proper AMD rx470, rx480 etc. GPU, so I decided to give the Nvidia GTX 1070 a try.

So far, I cannot complain. It was pretty much plug and play and I had not issues at all setting it up. After a few optimizations, e.g.
– Reducing TDP from 100% to 50% (79% shown in Afterburner)
– Reducing Core Clock by 100 MHz
– Increasing Memory Clock by 600 MHz (maximum is 800 MHz for me, due to Micron Memory 😊)
– Changing fan-curve (more steep)
– Adding a 5 USD external 2,5 W fan

I am getting a relatively decent Hashrate of 31 MH/s per GPU (124 MH/s for the rig) on Ethereum at a total Power Consumption of just under 460 Watt.
Also – after adding a cheap external fan, and despite ambient temperatures being at 30°C – all GPUs are operating at an acceptable temperature range of 51°C – 58°C at full load without me having to switch on the room’s AC for active cooling).

Note: Although in the video it sounds like I am standing next to a jet engine, in reality the fans are clearly audible, but not that disturbing! 😊
